What does a lighting control system do?Computerized lighting control systems are not as simple as replacing cumbersome switches with smart looking touch button panels. Andaman Lighting works with owners and designers to develop a network of lights to be used in tandem to create "lighting circuits". These lighting circuits are in turn controlled by a computer controller. The smart looking push button panels simply tell the controller which "lighting scenes" the owner wants to fade on/off. A lighting scene can include pushing one button upon entering the house to turn on selected lights in the entrance area and stairs to the upper levels at medium output. Another button on the same panel can turn on the entrance to the lounge and kitchen at high output. Yet another push button on the same touch panel shuts off all the interior lights, except the main entrance light that is on at low level or a hall light on at half power. Time control ensures at 7:30pm the exterior lights come on. Main walkway lights slowly dim to 20% at midnight so the path home is always lighted. More advantages of a computerized lighting control system? Reduce switch count A lighting system combines any number of lighting circuits, including dimmed and switched circuits. When you recall a lighting scene it may be a combination of several lighting levels from a number of circuits in a property. Simpler operation Particularly useful in larger properties, or properties where the residents change or are infrequent visitors. Fewer switches are easier to operate. The user is not confronted with a large panel of many switches and knobs that they can't remember what they all do or have hand written notes pasted above. It's also very difficult to recreate that "perfect scene" you set the evening before with manual dimmers. Mood control or change of use in a room In multi-function rooms lighting requirements vary with activity. Different light levels are required for watching a movie than reading a book, or having a quiet drink. The control system recalls the perfect scene with the touch of a single button. Soft on/off The lights do not come on full power instantly, but gently fade on and off and between scenes. This is much a much more pleasing way of coming home. It also extends lamp life. Fade times are adjustable for more dramatic effects. Global commands You can arrange any combination of lights to come on to any level at the touch of a button. An example is a bedside panic button, if you hear a crash or sounds outside in the middle of the night, push one button and all the outside lights are turned on without having to get out of bed. When you retire for the night, the touch of a button beside your bed and all the lights in the house, internal and external, go off or to a night-time setting. If you want to go to a particular area in the middle of the night (children's room, kitchen, bathroom) the touch of one button and all the relevant lights are turned on before leaving your bed. Time control House and garden lights are timed to switch on or off with your normal schedule. Water feature lights and water pumps, even curtains can be controlled to operate on schedule. For people who leave the home unattended over a period of time, the lighting control can be set to operate different lights at different times throughout the week, adding a security feature to you home lighting.
